Testimony
Growing up in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North
Carolina, my mother took me to a little mission my grandfather
built. It was there during my childhood that I heard about Jesus
and saw God move on those people and it left a great impression on
my young heart.
I grew up in a huge family; my grandmother on my mother's side had
twenty children. At thirteen, under a lot of peer pressure, I began
to take drugs. The Bible says,
"to whom you yield your
members as servants to obey, to him you become servant."
For a long time, I only
thought about it. Then I yielded my members and began to partake.
At first, I did drugs just because everyone else did them. After a
time, something else happened - it got into my soul and I became
addicted.
For the next twelve years, I went down a rough road of drugs,
drinking, and sin that almost killed me. I wanted out and tried
many times on my own, only to grow worse and worse. Then, in 1984,
one of my best friends gave his heart to Jesus and God set him
free. I found out much later from his wife that every night he
would go into the next room to pray. The first words out of his
mouth would be, "Lord whatever it takes, don't let Cecil Hamby go
to hell"!
God began to convict me and draw me by his spirit and on February
18, 1985, I yielded my members to another spirit. I went to my
friend's house, fell on my knees, and gave my heart to Jesus.
Deliverance is an amazing thing: according to all I knew, I should
have went into withdrawal from the hard drugs I used. This had
happened every other time I had tried to quit, but not this time - I
went down on my knees a drug addict and in two minutes, I got up a
free man. I didn't want it anymore! Jesus said,
"Behold I stand at the door and knock and if
any man will open the door, I will come into him".
I felt Jesus come in as the devil went out! I was once a servant of
sin, but now, twenty-one years later, a servant of Jesus ~
I love my new master!
The
day I got save I began to pray and read my Bible. The first four
days it was all I could do. Then I went to my first church service,
a humble little home meeting. I was asked to testify. I stood up
to say I'm glad to be saved but something hit me from heaven
and I preached for thirty minutes. The anointing came to me and a
call of God was stirred in me in that little service. That night
God started me on an amazing journey!
For the next three years, I sat under Pastor Roy Smith who led me to
God and prayed with me. We prayed together many nights and sought
God. Also Pastor David McNeil who took me into the word of God and
taught me. One night in a church service, an old prophet told me
that one day
When Brother Hall
died, God spoke to us and we left North Carolina and went back
to Cleveland, TN, where I now work with Brother Mike Ferree and
evangelize full time. Brother Ferree is the pastor of
Full Gospel House of Prayer
where my wife, Audrey, and our two daughters, Anna and Michelle,
attend. We have seen God do many great things in the ministry
and deliver us out of many hard places. It has been an amazing
journey and the best is yet to come!
